Lane Cove Morning

Where    : Lane Cove River

When     : 6-45am, Sunday 21st March 2010

Weapon : FujiFilm FinePix S3 Pro
Window : AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II

This shot is taken of the Lane Cove River at the weir - this is the freshwater upriver stretch that is only 10kms to the head of the river at Westleigh and Wahroonga on the junction of the Pennant Hills Road and Pacific Highway.

Downstream from the weir, the Lane Cove River estuary can be classified as a drowned river valley estuary, deep and narrow with rocky sides, and consequently little attenuation of tidal range. A short, often violent and fascinating river indeed falls 600 feet in 10 kilometres or so.

Plenty of dew around this morning - a typical Autumn Day in Sydney. Nights get down to about 17 degrees or so, and today we are heading for 31 degrees in the City and maybe 33 degrees up here in Ku-ring-gai.

Banksia Serrata

There are plenty of flowering banksias at the moment along the Old Road from North Turramurra down to Bobbin Head - no, not the current road (Ku-ring-gai Chase Road), but the old dirt road (take a righty after the gates and after the turn to the Sphinx).
